Card protection

Best sleeves for trading cards

The best sleeve depends on what the card is doing: sitting in a binder, shipping to a buyer, or surviving weekly play.

Penny sleeves

Penny sleeves are thin, inexpensive sleeves for basic protection. Use them before placing valuable cards into top loaders or storage boxes.

Deck sleeves

Deck sleeves are thicker and better for regular play. They protect cards from shuffling wear and make a deck feel more consistent in hand.

Inner sleeves

Inner sleeves are used for double sleeving. They add extra protection against dust and moisture, especially for expensive deck cards.

Top loaders

Top loaders are rigid holders for valuable singles and shipping. Always use a soft sleeve before putting a card into a top loader.

What most collectors need

A practical setup is simple: penny sleeves, a few packs of quality deck sleeves, top loaders for valuable singles, and a side-loading binder for display cards.
